As a teenager, I begged my dad to buy my first camera. I used this camera to capture skateboarding clips with friends. This was when I first began making videos. Growing up, I got into playing the video game “Halo” and started a Youtube channel around it. This is where I found my love for video editing. I would capture clips in-game and make montages for my channel. I grew this channel to over 1,000 subscribers before I eventually quit video games permanently. These videos helped me develop my editing style and improve my video flow.
I got a new camera and decided to get back into making videos shortly after that. At that time, I made a lot of videos for fun & enjoyment. Later on, I ended up doing my first paid videos for friends of mine that were also music artists. I realized that creating videos was not only a skill of mine, but also something I’m deeply passionate about. The feeling of putting together a video that helps someone, makes them smile, or takes their business to a new level is what I cherish. After realizing I could do this for a living, it was like the pieces of the puzzle fell together.
In 2019, I created my videography business “Directed By Ian”. Soon after this I produced around 20 full-length videos in less than a year.
In 2022, I decided that I wanted to focus on creating event videos. I love seeing the energy & emotion at different events. It brings me massive amounts of joy to take a moment that may eventually be forgotten and instead document it to be remembered forever. While I’m filming events and hearing people share their story, it helps me feel present and grounded. It reminds me that life isn’t always about hustle & success but also about commemoration and experiences.
In 2023, I continued to make event videos & build my videography business. I realized that story-telling through video is more important than people understand. In today’s world, having a strong video & online presence is absolutely crucial to the success of a brand or business.
Later on, I began doing social media video content creation & marketing for an electronics company in Los Angeles. I started a TikTok from scratch and grew it to over 10,000 followers in less than 5 months. After a few viral videos, we we took this company from losing money every month, to 5x’ing their revenue. This company was spending less time & using less energy but making more money as a result of the videos I created.
Directed By Ian represents visual story-telling to the highest degree. The art of capturing a video that sells without having to actually sell or pitch anything.
